Words, Words, Words

We could not
and likely will not
find the words we need.

They’re hidden underneath
sneaky similes,
amateur alliteration,
and recycled rhetoric.

If we cared about the truth,
we’d admit all these words
are a failed attempt to describe grief
as anything but
pure, unrelenting pain,
even on the beautiful days.
