Archiving

Place or store (something) in an archive.
I cannot help but feel
this is an inaccurate definition,

for when I picture archiving,
I picture two pairs of hands
exchanging repositories in endless repetition:

string-bound manuscripts and handwritten notes,
film rolls and CDs—
lining them up in a story of acquisition.

Suppose we preserve for a future
we will never see:
perhaps to archive is to care.

Consider the sins of the past
we could not forget:
perhaps to archive is to share.

However, simply, there is still us,
spinning a history years in the making,
deciding, to archive is to dare.

Recommendation: ‘Still I Rise’ by Maya Angelou (and a video performance by her).
